Construction coordinator (m/f/d), Kigali, Rwanda



Your new role

The partnership office in Kigali is a branch of the association Partnerschaft Rheinland-Pfalz / Ruanda e.V. For 35 years, this has been coordinating and assisting in projects that help people to help themselves initiated and implemented by Rwandan partners, within the framework of this international partnership. With over 20 em-ployees, the office coordinates the activities in the departments for school partnerships, social projects, econo-my and vocational training as well as construction and administration. To promote vocational training in Rwan-da, 18 vocational schools are currently being supported with construction projects and equipment.

You will take on the management and coordination of construction measures in the fields of school construc-tion, healthcare, water supply, sports facilities and energy. You will be responsible for the planning, application, execution and monitoring the success of the projects in cooperation with the Rwandan partners and the office employees. You will work with the other departments on strategies for the further development of the partner-ship. Furthermore, you will represent the idea of the Rhineland-Palatinate / Rwanda partnership to all project participants and interested parties.

Specifically, you will take on the following tasks under the supervision of the construction team and in coopera-tion with the other departments of the coordination office:

Specifically, you will carry out the following tasks:


  • You will support your Rwandan employees in the construction department with regard to an independent and responsible way of working.
  • You will oversee the project proposals submitted by the Rwandan partners and draft project applications with the involvement of various local responsible parties.
  • You will encourage Rwandan partners to assume responsibility for project execution.
  • You will be responsible for the execution of construction projects from tendering, awarding of contracts and implementation to the acceptance of the construction phases agreed with the companies.
  • You will work with the other departments on strategies for the further development of the partnership.
  • You will communicate closely with the partners in Rhineland-Palatinate and Rwanda regarding the project progression.
  • You will work in close contact with the local Rwandan authorities in the development and execution of construction projects.

Your profile:

  • You have successfully completed a degree in civil engineering or architecture or a master craftsman qualification in a building trade.
  • You interact confidently in an intercultural context and your technical and qualitative assessment of construction work is carried out in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • You identify with the partnership idea of cooperation between Rhineland-Palatinate and Rwanda. Ideally you have a special connection to Rhineland-Palatinate and already have a good network there.
  • You enjoy working in an international and interdisciplinary team.
  • You have a category B driving licence.
  • You speak conversational German, French and English.
  • You are an EU or Swiss citizen.
