The Association for Development Cooperation (AGEH) is the human resources service of German Catholics for Development Cooperation. In the Civil Peace Service (CPS), we offer you the opportunity to perform a meaningful role in collaboration with local peace workers. The CPS is a programme for peace-building and the prevention of violence in crisis and conflict regions. It advocates a world in which conflicts are settled without violence and supports partner organisations in all phases of conflicts including conflict prevention, violence mitigation and post-conflict rehabilitation. Together with church and civil-social partners in Cameroon, the AGEH aims to contribute to civil conflict transformation using CPS peace-building measures.

To support the "Service pour le Développement Humain Intégral" (SDHI) and to assist the ZFD state coordination in Cameroon, at the earliest opportunity, we are looking for a

Your new field of activity

The partner organisation Justitia et Pax Douala (CDJP) works on behalf of the diocesan church in the field of justice and peace. The Commission in Douala is at a turning point in its history, as it is becoming increasingly important for it to strengthen the abilities of its direct partner, the Justitia et Pax Committees, in parishes, in advocacy and social analysis. In Cameroon, it is the first diocesan office ever to merge the previous Justitia et Pax Commission with the Migration Office into the "Service pour le Développement Humain Intégral" (Service for Holistic Human Development). The CDJP is a structure of the Cameroonian Catholic Church and the coordination and networking point for all church (base) groups at regional and parish level. Its aim is to establish a dialogue between groups of of refugees and community committees, such as the "Communautés Ecclésiale Vivante" (CEV) and the "Comités Paroissial Justice et Paix" (CPJP), in order to intensively analyze the current situation and develop solutions for the future. To this end, you will work for the "Service pour le Développement Humain Intégral".

You will be responsible for the following tasks:

Integrated specialist (80%)

  • Together with the community committees, you qualify groups of refugees in the monitoring and evaluation of social studies on the basis of which the diocese carries out advocacy activities.
  • You strengthen the SDHI staff in the areas of advocacy, social analysis and, if possible, peace education and mediation.
  • You accompany the volunteers of the SDHI and the CPJP and advise them on the further development of their working tools and projects as well as their mandate.

Assistance (20%)

  • You support the Cameroonian state coordination of the AGEH's ZFD programme in the implementation of the part of the programme financed by the Special Flight Initiative.
  • You are responsible for the proper spending and administration of funds on-site in accordance with the donor guidelines and the specifications of the AGEH. In doing so, you work in partnership with the partner organisation.

Your profile

  • you have completed a university degree in the field of social sciences, for example.
  • You have practical and theoretical knowledge in peace work, social research or communication.
  • Ideally, you have gathered experience in advocycy work and refugee law.
  • You can communicate fluently in written and spoken English and French.
  • You have diplomatic skills, highly differentiated intercultural communication skills for dealing with the involved parties in a spirit of partnership and can act appropriately in a church environment.
  • You are a citizen of the EU or Switzerland and identify with Christian values and the goals and concerns of church development and peace work.
