The Association for Development Cooperation (AGEH) is the human resources service of German Catholics for Development Cooperation. In the Civil Peace Service (CPS), we offer you the opportunity to perform a meaningful role in collaboration with local peace workers. The CPS is a programme for peace-building and the prevention of violence in crisis and conflict regions. It advocates a world in which conflicts are settled without violence and supports partner organisations in all phases of conflicts including conflict prevention, violence mitigation and post-conflict rehabilitation. Together with church and civil-social partners in South Sudan, the AGEH aims to contribute to civil conflict transformation using CPS peace-building measures.

Your new field of activity

With the signing of the new peace agreements in August 2018, South Sudan, independent from Sudan since 2011 and thus the youngest country in the world, has reached an important point in its young history and is raising high hopes.

The Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) is a global humanitarian organization whose mission is to support refugees and defend their rights. In South Sudan, the aid is of particular benefit to internally displaced people in Yambio and Maban. JRS enables access to education, provides psychosocial support and promotes the sustainable development of people's independent livelihoods.

The current urgent concern of our partner organization is long-term strategic planning with a clear focus on peace-building, which includes training people involved in peace-related topics and closer cooperation with the communities.


You will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • You advise the partner organisation on a long-term peace-building strategy and accompany it in its organisational development process.
  • You coordinate the various JRS South Sudan programmes nationwide in close cooperation with the country and project leaders.
  • You support the further development and implementation of approaches for project planning, monitoring and evaluation.
  • You promote the expansion and maintenance of networks with other peace actors and, in particular, the communication with donor organisations.
  • You are responsible for the proper spending and administration of funds on-site in accordance with the donor guidelines and the specifications of the AGEH. In doing so, you work in partnership with the partner organisation.

Your profile

  • You have completed a university degree in the field of economics or social sciences and have several years of work experience in financial administration and project management.
  • You have already gained leadership or coordination experience in development cooperation outside of Europe.
  • You have applied knowledge in methods of non-violent conflict transformation and in peace and reconciliation work.
  • You communicate fluently in written and spoken English.
  • You identify with the goals and concerns of church development and peace work and support them convincingly. 
  • You are a citizen of the EU or Switzerland.
