Social worker for peace education work in the community with young people (m/f/d), Dili, Timor-Leste

 

AGIAMONDO is the personnel service of the German Catholics for Development Cooperation. In the Civil Peace Service (CPS) we offer development workers a meaningful role working with local development agents. The CPS is a personnel programme for peacebuilding and the prevention of violence in crisis and conflict regions. It sets out to promote a world in which conflicts are settled without violence. Working with church-related and civilsocial partner organisations in Timor-Leste, AGIAMONDO aims to make a contribution towards civil conflict management and the sustainable and equitable development of the country through peace-building measures.
 

To support our partner organisation Departemento da Juventude Catolica da Diocese de Dili (DEJUCDDIL), we are looking for a 

Social worker for peace education work in the community with young people (m/f/d), Dili, Timor-Leste

to start as soon as possible.

                    

 

Your new role

The Departemento da Juventude Catolica da Diocese de Dili (DEJUCDDIL) is the youth department of the archdiocese Dili and therefore the central administrative body for all of the diocese’s Catholic youth work.
 
The youth department was established in April 2006 during the violent civil unrest in Timor-Leste. By creating the department, the bishop was reacting to the civil war-like conditions in the country. The aim was to create a church-based service and contact point for young Timorese, to offer them an alternative direction to the daily violence.  
 
Since its foundation in 2006, DEJUCDDIL has offered a variety of training and further education courses to strengthen non-violent conflict resolution mechanisms for Timorese young people.

Specifically, you will carry out the following tasks:

  • You will advise and support the project team in the further development of its peace education methods and training content.
  • You will provide assistance in the coordination of diocesan youth work in cooperation with the various parishes of the archdiocese.
  • You will advise the project team on establishing and implementing an outcome-oriented planning, monitoring and evaluation system for internal processes.
  • You will support the management teams in the implementation and professionalisation of its administrative processes.
  • You will be responsible for the proper spending and management of funds locally in accordance with the donor and AGIAMONDO guidelines. In doing so, you will work in partnership with DEJUCDDIL.

Your profile

  • You have completed a university degree in, for example, social work, social education or another social science degree specialising in peace-building or youth work or You have completed vocational training in the field of social work and have several years of professional experience with a focus on peace-building or youth work.  
  • You are familiar with the methods and concepts of (church-based) peace education, ideally you have already been active in a peace education role in church parishes.
  • You have at least 2 years of professional experience working with young people.
  • You have already gained experience in organisational development projects and have knowledge of project planning, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Your written and spoken English language skills are very good. You are prepared to learn the national and working language Tetum with language teachers as part of your preparations and once in the country.
  • You are an EU or Swiss citizen and identify with the goals and concerns of church development and peace work and are a member of the Roman Catholic Church.
